I've been learning how to crochet, and this was my first project. I think this is how Gwen's hat is done- crochet! It started off from a pattern in the book, Get Your Crochet On! by Afya Ibomu. I modified the pattern, "Be Easy", kind of by mistake and with some suggestions from the person for whom it was intended. It's a little easier to custom fit a project when the recipient is right there while you're making it. The book is pretty good for beginners, she has a lot of pictures and starts off going over the basic techniques. I also like her patterns, I think I'll be making more of these in the future.

Looks great! One of the things I love about crochet is how easy it can be to make adjustments as you go - looks like you are taking advantage of that too, fitting it as you go. Fabulous!
